she fought south swindon last time under the name sue stebbing, from what i remember of her - nothing special as a candidate, just targetted marginal labour voters

She took the Lib Dems from 11.9% to 16.8 % - although she clains that this is "nearly 50%" - obviously after a place in the Lib Dem Treasury Team  Cheesy

A 4.9 % point increase in her vote from 11.9% to 16.8% represents a 41.2% increase - so 'nearly 50%' isn't that inaccurate!

A damn bit closer to 40% than to 50% though!

Indeed!  But it's also closer to zero than 100%...

Once and incomer, always an incomer, apparently.

There was also some little local difficulty this time with the Conservative group on West Dorset District Council wanting to build a new set of civic offices in Dorchester, which would put up the Council Tax.  Pretty much your standard NIMBY response from the local ratepayers, which the Lib Dems (and others) tried to capitalise on.

In addition, regardless of the virtues of the proposal, all the other towns (Sherborne, Lyme Regis, Bridport) were upset that their money was being used in the centre of Big Government, and as is to be expected went anti the ruling Group as well.
